چکیده

In this Letter, we present the first results from updated models of interstellar deuterium chemistry that now include all possible deuterated isotopomers of . We find that in regions of high density and heavy depletion, such as H3 prestellar cores, the inclusion of HD and D enhances the fractionation of ionic and neutral species significantly. 2 3 Our models are the first to predict the very high atomic D/H ratios (≥0.3) necessary for grain-surface chemistry models to reproduce the high formaldehyde and methanol fractionation seen in star-forming regions. The Effect of an Increased Elemental D/h Ratio on Deuterium Fractionation in the Cold Interstellar Medium

Measurements using the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) show that the gas-phase D/H ratio in the solar neighborhood is highly variable and suggest that the elemental abundance of deuterium in the Galactic disk may be higher than previously thought. We investigate in this Letter the possible consequences of such an enhanced D/H ratio on the deuterium fractionation in singly and mult...

Deuterium enhancement of monodeuterated species has been recognized for more than 30 years as a result of the chemical fractionation that results from the difference in zero point energies of deuterated and hydrogenated molecules. The key reaction is the deuteron exchange in the reaction between HD, the reservoir of deuterium in dark interstellar clouds, and the H3 + molecular ion, leading to t...

Future Mm/submm Instrumentation and Science Opportunities: Example of Deuterated Molecules

During the next decade a tremendous advance will take place in instrumentation for spectroscopy of the interstellar medium. Major new facilities (ALMA, SOFIA, APEX, LMT, Herschel and others) will be constructed and commissioned, so that the science opportunities, in the field of astrochemistry, will increase by a huge factor. This will be enhanced by the new receivers with greater bandwidth and...

H - D substitution in interstellar solid methanol : a key route for D enrichment

Deuterium enrichment of interstellar methanol is reproduced experimentally for the first time via grain-surface H-D substitution in solid methanol at an atomic D/H ratio of 0.1. Although previous gas-grain models successfully reproduce the deuterium enrichments observed in interstellar methanol molecules (D/H of up to 0.4, compared to the cosmic ratio of ∼10), the models exclusively focus on de...

Letter to the Editor Detection of doubly deuterated ammonia in L134N

ND2H has been detected for the first time in the dense core of L134N, at the peak ammonia position. The abundance ratio [ND2H]/[NH2D] is 0.05, a slightly smaller value than the deuterium fractionation observed for ammonia [NH2D]/[NH3] ∼ 0.1 (Tiné et al. 2000). This is the second doubly deuterated species detected so far in the interstellar medium, and the first one in a cold dense core. The che...
